HERBST WINS TWO CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS, 64 TOWNS AT CTGOP CONVENTION, ADVANCES TO PRIMARY

TRUMBULL — GOP gubernatorial candidate and former Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst expressed confidence Sunday his campaign is well-positioned to win the August primary for governor. Herbst won two congressional districts (the second and third) at the CTGOP Convention Saturday and nearly tied two others (the first and fourth), garnering just over 40 percent of the total vote on the third and final round of balloting. Herbst won the Second Congressional district by a margin of two-to-one.

“I am overwhelmed by the tremendous support I received from so many great Republicans at the CTGOP Convention and could not be more excited to now take my record of proven reform and outsider message directly to Republican Primary voters,” Herbst said. “Republican voters deserve a nominee they can trust, not only to win the November election, but to bring fundamental change to Hartford and fight for their values.”

“I am immensely proud of the fact that I won two congressional districts outright at the Convention Sunday and notched such a strong showing running as a Hartford outsider who has taken on insiders in both parties and refused donations from Hartford lobbyists – against an opponent who had the backing of the entire establishment in Hartford and who has received the most campaign contributions from Hartford lobbyists,” Herbst continued.

“Republican voters are looking for a candidate they can trust, who has a steel backbone and a steadfast commitment to Republican values,” Herbst said.

“We simply cannot afford to nominate any candidate who we cannot trust to win an election, change business-as-usual in Hartford or fight for our values,” Herbst said. “We cannot nominate any candidate who is un-vetted and has never won an election or who has donated thousands of dollars to Democrats or who has flip-flopped on every single issue of consequence for GOP voters and stands with insiders who profit from the status quo.”
