TRUMBULL, CT — GOP gubernatorial candidate and former Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst announced a new slate of endorsements Monday for the sixth consecutive week. The six new endorsements bring Herbst’s total roster of public support from current and former GOP officials, party leaders and party committees to 94. Herbst also placed first in the second round of voting in a gubernatorial straw poll for the second week in a row, according to a news release from the candidate.
“I am overwhelmed by the incredible support our campaign to elect a proven reformer and Hartford outsider to shake things up under the Gold Dome continues to generate every day,” Herbst said in a statement. “Across every corner of Connecticut momentum is building behind our campaign to send a new generation of leadership to Hartford to end business-as-usual, reverse the Malloy agenda and restore prosperity to our state.”
In addition to the endorsements announced by Herbst Monday, he placed first in the second round of voting that closed Sunday in the CTNewsJunkie March Madness straw poll for governor — defeating the second-place finisher by nearly 900 votes. Herbst placed first in an initial round of voting a week earlier out of more than 13,000 votes cast.
