Herbst: ‘Unacceptable’ for house speaker to put golf ahead of budget

Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst, a GOP candidate for governor in 2018, slammed Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz (D-Berlin) last week after Aresimowicz skipped a budget meeting to attend a golf tournament.

“Connecticut is facing yet another fiscal created by the feckless leadership of insiders in Hartford and the speaker cannot even be bothered to show up to work,” Herbst said.  “Connecticut taxpayers, towns and businesses are racked with uncertainty about the state’s plans to close a crushing budget deficit. It’s shameful and unacceptable for the speaker to be skipping budget meetings for golf outings in such uncertain times.”
