Tim Herbst, a Republican exploring a run for governor, has become the third candidate this week to reject contributions from lobbyists.
"I won't dance around this issue with gimmicks or distractions, I will not accept contributions from lobbyists in this campaign," Herbst said. "I call on any Republican considering a bid for statewide office to do the same." He added: "The corrupt culture of superiority of Hartford insiders has led to a different set of rules for those with influence than for the rest of struggling Connecticut taxpayers If we want different results from Hartford, we need to change, from top to bottom, the way business is done in Hartford." Herbst follows Democrat Chris Mattei, who announced earlier this week that he will not accept lobbyist's donations and challenged all potential gubernatorial candidates to do the same.
