Herbst Adds to Post-Debate Momentum With CTGOP State Central Endorsements

TRUMBULL -- GOP gubernatorial candidate and former Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst announced Monday he has received endorsements from six members of the CTGOP State Central Committee.

"Our campaign to upend business as usual in Hartford by electing a proven reformer and Hartford outsider to shake things up continues to gain momentum every day," Herbst said.

"I am honored to have the support of these tremendous leaders of our party," Herbst said. "Republicans are tired of losing elections in Connecticut and recognize we need to nominate a battle-tested, battle-ready candidate with a demonstrated track record of winning tough elections," he said.

Daniel Hetzel, District 18

“Tim not only has the right vision and experience to be governor: For Republicans to be victorious in 2018 we need to run a candidate who’s battle-tested, has won tough elections, who can communicate their message clearly and concisely, and who can assemble a strong campaign team," Hetzel said, "Tim Herbst is the only Republican candidate in the race who has done all of this.”

Robert Kolenberg, District 27

"Tim Herbst is the only candidate with the knowledge, experience and internal fortitude to solve the tremendous problems our state faces," Kolenberg said, "I fully endorse him for governor."

William Jenkins, District 35

"Tim is the strongest Republican candidate for governor to defeat Gov. Malloy's chosen Democratic successor next fall," Jenkins said. "Tim has a proven record of winning tough elections and has the right message to win next November," he said.

Meg Cassanta, District 9

"Tim's track record of success in Trumbull is exactly what we need at the state level. He is a proven reformer who leads by example," Cassanta said.

Enzo Faienza, District 9

"Tim is a proven reformer and Hartford outsider who has the experience and ability to lead our party to victory in November," Faienza.

Carl Massaro Jr., District 22

“Tim has spent the last eight years making Trumbull the destination for families and new business as one of the most prosperous towns in the state,” Massaro said. “Tim is a proven pension reformer who voters can count on to tackle Connecticut’s serious challenges because it’s what he did in Trumbull,” he said.

The endorsements from leading Republican activists come three days after a survey conducted by the CTGOP found viewers agreed Herbst was the clear winner of the first Republican gubernatorial debate.

In addition to the six GOP SCC members, Herbst has been endorsed by 11 current and former municipal executives and the Republican town committees of Trumbull and Putnam.
